Calling all artists (local and beyond)...The Riverside Rollergirls need a slick, professional visual identity that represents us in the world of roller derby as the hard-hitting, quick-witted, fast, hot, and tough rollergirls we are. This logo will be used on a wide variety of items including t-shirts, posters, buttons, stickers, banners, and who knows what else. Check out all the details and submission guidelines HERE and make sure to submit your masterpiece, for a chance to win a sponsorship package worth $250 and our eternal love, by the March 15 deadline. We're throwing a party at Powerhouse Factories on March 31st to reveal the winner...see you there! Support your local Northern Kentucky roller derby, Riverside Rollergirls, and help yourself at the same time! It's win/win!
It's crappy outside, why not do something fun? Like coming to our calendar release party at the Gypsy Hut tonight! NO COVER, DJ Grover spinning soul music for you to dance the night away, buy valentines for a cute stranger across the dance floor, and Ms. February and Ms. May will be there signing autographed calendars all night long! All in support of Northern Kentucky Roller Derby, Riverside Rollergirls.

This is the project that has been keeping me up nights for an entire month...our rollergirl calendar "Better Dead That Red: Rollergirls of the Red States." We worked with six other leagues to create a kick-ass calendar. LipI was seriously so impressed with the quality of images turned in: this is not rollergirls awkwardly posing with a digicam four feet away. It turned out so beautifully, and it was first time working in Illustrator. Very hard work, but very rewarding. So now you have to buy it! Come on! It's only $12, which you can send directly to uws@unitedweskate.com via paypal. It is seriously worth every penny to support Riverside Rollergirls, and get a kick ass, and I do mean KICK ASS calendar in return. There's even an official myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/rollergirlcalendarGo friend it! And buy a calendar for everybody you know.
It's the most wonderful day of the year...Buy Nothing Day! Try it out, it's not hard, you just literally DON'T BUY ANYTHING!!! Reject the craziness for one day before you enter the holiday season. Today, you are not buying yet another scented candle/bath set for that female relative you refuse to waste any thought on! Today, you will not crush the skull of a slower, weaker competitor as you scramble to get a $300 dvd player for $40. Today, you are no one's Secret Santa! Happy Buy Nothing Day! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buy_Nothing_Day
My roller derby league is holding a fall festival, Fist Full of Fun. It will be insanity, so you should check it out if you are in the area. More info here.
I am sponsoring a contest right now over at the forums for United We Skate. So head over and sign up, it only takes about 5 minutes, and the prize is potentially worth as much as $50.
Where are the special awards and recognition for the world of crafting? My business partner and I have looked, and have yet to find anything. So we took it upon ourselves to come up with the First Annual Plummy Awards for Excellence in Crafting. All sorts of different media are represented, and this is a real award, voted on by your peers in the crafting community. Winners in each category will receive recognition online, as well as a reworked trophy, and one crafter will become "Best Overall Crafter" for 2006. Like I said, this is your peers recognizing your talent, nominating you for the award, and then returning to vote for you. Can you think of a better feeling? We are officially taking nominations starting right now. Please, if you think someone is deserving of recognition, take the time to visit the webpage and nominate them. All nominees will be notified, regardless of whether or not they win. Good luck to all nominees! To vote, visit: 2006 Plummy Awards.
Postcards From Cletus begins today. I've posted the first 10 entries here: http://community.livejournal.com/cletuspostcardsSome of them are so cute! I'm really excited about the turnout so far. I figured out yesterday that this is actually 4 art projects rolled into 1. First, I make the actual Cletus, second, people take photographs of him, third, i edit the photographs into postcards, and fourth, i compile them into this project. I'm so proud that something I made is traveling all over the place. It is such a neat feeling! Anyone can vote for their favorites, you do not have to be a member of the community. This Saturday is the first annual Caffeinated Craft Show, I'll be there, and I'm bringing the big display piece, so be sure to stop by and get your picture taken as a fetus! There are going to be all sorts of different vendors there, so if you haven't done any Mother's Day shopping yet, or if you're a Mom and feel like treating yourself to something extra nice, or if you have no children, and no parents, and you just like to buy things, this is the place to be. All vendors are local cottage-industry types, so you'll find one-of-a-kind and handmade items you can't find anywhere else. Help support indie businesses in Cincinnati! Starbucks Coffeehouse 4752 Cornell Rd. Cincinnati OH 45241
I'm Getting My Bean On at Caffeinated Craft ShowMy friend Lindsey is running this. The best part is there are NO table fees. And there's going to be lots of cool Earth Day stuff, and a bunch of rollergirls skating around. If you are in the area, apply for a table!
If you are in or near Columbus, Ohio, this is a mandatory event! There will be a pop quiz! Well, not so much "pop," I guess, since I just told you about it. But a quiz nonetheless!!!
Introducing Postcards From Cletus, an online interactive art project starting this summer. We are looking for participants starting right now! Here's how it works: Participants (both domestic and international) will be sent a 100% FREE Cletus Fetus. In return, they will take their Cletus Fetus around their hometown, taking various photographs that show what it is like to live there. We need Cletus Fetuses catching flies at ballgames, standing in line at rollercoasters, running through sprinklers, whatever you can think of, we need it! Starting June 1st, the Postcards from Cletus Fetus livejournal community will come alive with weekly entries, which members can then vote on. Winners will receive glorious, glorious prizes. Oh the prizes you will win! All you need to participate is access to a digital camera, a Cletus Fetus, and a hometown. Some imagination would help, too. Join the Community: http://community.livejournal.com/cletuspostcards/profileSign Up: http://www.fetopia.net/postcardsfromcletusRead All The Info: http://www.fetopia.net/promotions.htmlThanks so much to all who participate, and enjoy your Cletus Fetus!
If you were thinking of ordering them as gifts for the holidays anyway, now is your chance to get your fetos and get money to a really good cause. Plus, you get a special gift just for ordering, so it's win/win. I will also be putting some items up on Etsy in the Crafters United section. |
